So Day 2 was our first FULL day at the beach. Brian, Nathan & Papa got up extra early to fish at low tide. Jackson and I slept until 7 or so when the sun blasts our room. Natalie made yummy french toast, bacon and fresh fruit! So good. Then we lathered all the kiddies up with sunscreen (Brian & I included) and headed out to the water. Jackson wanted to start the morning off with a little swim and that he did. I wasn't sure if he would be nervous about the waves even though the water was warmer than the heated pool in OR. Nope, he wasn't - the small waves just added to the excitement. He would walk out holding our hands then as soon as it was deep enough he would kick up his legs and float. I could have watched him all day.
My dad brought 2 blow-up rafts and 2 blow-up kayaks, which was really nice for those who wanted to float out a ways and sun tan. Brian and I mostly hung out in the shade. We basically live in a cave here in Coos Bay, so it just wasn't worth the agony of a sunburn to get some color. I usually wear some sunless tanner, but the smell was more than I could take this time. Everyone else seemed to darken up real nice though. Christy definitely wins the darkest tan award, she has the best skin ever! However, Tay and Justin tie for the tannest kids. And of course, my little Jackson wins for getting absolutely NO sun whatsoever. Way to go, stink!
Not too much else to report for Day 2. I usually focus on the food which was delicious as always. My dad also brought tons of fire wood so we could have a camp fire each night. Half the fam sat around the fire each night talking & hanging out. Others watched Disney movies inside, snacked, played with the babies or went to bed early.
I forgot a very important part of our first day! So we get to the beach around 4 pm and some of the kids were already swimming and playing in the water. Justin being one of them was walking around in the water with Audra when he felt sharp stings on his ankle! He raced out of the water to find blood all over his foot. He didn't know what it was, but knew it hurt like the devil. Brian was immediately paged to the scene and started assessing the wound. Everyone concluded that Justin was stung 3 or 4 times by a STING RAY! He had very distinct puncture wounds that would not stop bleeding. Brian (very professionally) cleaned and bandaged the wound. Justin went to his room to cope with the pain that went all the way up to his knee. Later when he was in the big house hanging out again, Christy said she noticed he was shivering. She asked him if he was cold but he said no, he was just in so much pain. Poor guy. He toughed it out and eventually the initial sting from the ray dissipated and he was left with the pain of an open hole on his ankle. Crazy, huh? He survived with Brian checking and changing his bandages daily. Thank goodness for the Doctor in the house & myself for telling him to bring all his gear! We're glad you are all better Justin! Love you.
