Thanksgiving Weekend Highlights

Brian and I had our first Thanksgiving alone, meaning without friends or family. If this sounds lonely to you, it wasn't! In fact it was one of my favorite Thanksgivings so far. I made the entire dinner all by myself for the first time and am happy to say it actually turned out. We had all the fixings with turkey, gravy, stuffing, cream corn, green bean casserole, rolls, potato casserole and two pies - all homemade (except for the rolls)! Yes, I'm proud.
Brian had four days off in a row, which is unusual. We spent almost the entire weekend with just our little family. We bought our first real Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving, Brian went to Wal-Mart at 4:00am on Black Friday and completed our Christmas shopping, we watched movies, played a few games, Brian went fishing, we looked at new homes with a realtor and we saw the lights at Shore Acre Gardens! It was such a great weekend. I didn't have to cook one little thing as I made 9x13" casserole dishes of all the Thanksgiving side dishes and baked a 12 lb turkey, so we were set with left overs all weekend long.

So funny story about our tree. We went to the local "mall" to pick out our lovely tree as shown above. We found our special little tree, took the traditional photos of the experience and started the tie down process. Brian brought all the necessary equipment to properly attach it to our car without scratching or falling off. We put Jackson in his car seat first and started looping the rope in the car and around the tree until it was safely secure. Okay, all we had to do was get in and drive home, right?. . . Wrong! We actually tied all four doors shut in the process with our child inside! No one would guess we each had a masters degree.
What do you think Brian's first suggestion was to his 8-month pregnant wife? "So, can you crawl through the window to get in?" - Uhmm, NO!
Needless to say, he had to untie a few loops to open the driver side door so I could crawl in to the passenger seat. It was pretty funny, especially to the elderly couple who tried to help us out.

Most of our pictures to see the lights at Shore Acres didn't turn out too well. It was dark and the flash just ruined the picture most of the time. So you'll have to take my word for it, it was amazing! Every little twig was adorned with lights. They had animals lit up all over the grounds and offered guests hot cider, punch and cookies. It was a great family outing for sure. I took some videos, but I still need to figure out how to get them on the blog. If you know how . . . please let me know.

Oh come on Heath, you don't think you could've crawled through the window? JK- that is so funny. Great story for your kids.
I bet your Thanksgiving Feast was heavenly. Thanks for helping with recipes- they turned out great for us as well. Yummy!
I bet Shore Acre was awesome. I'll take your word for it. I still think about the lucky people who win the New Years Eve stay.
