So my sister lend me this book called "Photographing Children" by Ginny Felch and Allison Tyler Jones. The latter photographed Natalie's family and so there are pics of her girls in the book for examples. Anyway, I read several chapters last night and decided to try out some techniques the book offered about using natural light verses the flash to get more natural skin tones and avoid harsh shadows. I also set up the f stop and shutter speed on the manual mode, which is new for me too. So these photos were taken without the flash using only window light and untouched by the computer. I still have a lot of improving to do, but I'll keep working on it.
Brian was so kind to spare a few moments of his time to let me get a family shot. If you know Brian you KNOW he hates when a picture takes longer than a mila-second to set up and shoot. Now as an experimenting photographer. . . I'm a little slow at this so you can imagine his comments between each shot. "So . . .are we not going out today?"
"You read for hours last night, don't you know what you're doing?"
"Can I go work on something else while you do that?"
"Why don't you put the camera next to the TV so Jackson and I can just pretend to look at the camera?"

Ha ha--Mark would make the same comments that Brian made. I love all your pictures! I wish that either Mark or I were photography savvy.
Oh, that must be the Allen way. I bet it's a packed they all made as children.
How could you not want to be a photographer when you have the CUTEST little boy as your ultimate subject. He is way to cute.
Keep up the good work.
Miss ya.
PS. answer to your Q. I was shoveling and hit cement and fell off. I know, dah.
LOVE the pictures...you are such a pro!! I would TOTALLY hire you for our family pictures...(anyone who can handle my crew...Jason included...is worth the money)!! Can't wait for Mexico...bring the camera!!! Love you ALL!!!
Brian, putting the camera next to the TV was an awesome idea. I can't believe our wives think they can cut into our TV time with things like family pictures! :) This is Todd by the way and not Candy.
i laughed out loud at your post...i don't know brian too well, but can definitely imagine him say those things.
Good job Heather!! I love those pictures!!!
