Today is Scott’s birthday and we miss him terribly. Brian mentioned he wanted us to write a messages to Scott on balloons filled with helium and set them free. He figured the kids were getting older and maybe a little closer to understanding how much we love and miss their uncle. We explained to Jackson that his Uncle Scott went to heaven before Jackson was born. We reminded him how he is named after Scott and that we wanted to say‘Happy Birthday’ on balloons that would float all the way to heaven.
Of course both Jackson & Addison were bouncing off the wall at the mention of someone’s birthday and even more ecstatic when they saw all the brightly colored balloons. So we each helped the kids write a message to their uncle and we did the same. It felt really good to celebrate Scott’s birthday after so long. We drove to the dock so we would have a clear view of their ascent to heaven. It was a really great experience for everyone . . . but Addison. She was not okay with the idea of letting her balloon go. Nevertheless, it was the perfect ending to the perfect day.
Getting ready . . . . (Brian untying the tangled strings from the unrelenting coastal winds.)
Set . . . . And GO!! ( . . . except for Addison, who would NOT let go)
A few more shots of the balloons taking off and Addison’s reaction to it all. It’s not easy being two.

These are beautiful...who took the photos of the whole group? Gave me a lump in my throat...just love this tradition of a celebration of life and not the death. Way to go sister!
