Shrooms, Slugs & Berries, OH MY!

 IMG_3999

Another Oregon adventure for us.  Yes, Brian and I took our kids and joined the Bell family to search the forest floor for chanterelle mushrooms.  We bush-whacked our way through dense foliage to fill our bucket with the golden goodies.  Ruth was our expert tour guide and helped Brian steer clear of the 'special' mushrooms.   Unfortunately the chanterelle mushrooms were few and far between but we did find several Lobster Mushrooms, which are actually parasites that grown on mushrooms, but are edible too.  It was a great family activity and a wild adventure too.  Addison did surprisingly well considering how long we were trudging through the forest, her age and that I had her face covered most of the time for protection.  Jackson and Sierra loved snacking on the Huckleberries, which were so juicy & yummy.  We all had to wash all our wet, muddy clothes and check for ticks when we got home, but we had a great time nevertheless.

So if you decide to visit us in the fall we have a new activity for you . . .

Yea, that's a great idea to have Brian identify the "safe" mushrooms. Hopefully his botany skills are better than his ornithology skills in terms of identification. Somehow when I think of Oregon and mushrooms I never get a good picture in my mind of the outcome. Some cool looking pictures though.

Neat pictures. What do you make out of the mushrooms? Looks like a fun outing.
